Lomond Community School and Shoeboxes
Every year our grade 9 - 12 students head to Calgary to sort shoeboxes. For some it is the highlight of the school year. We sort and stuff and marvel at the generosity of so many people. We love hearing stories of children who giggle with pure joy as they open their box. One story still stands out to me:
A young girl desperately wanted to attend school but the school required shoes and this little girl had no shoes. As she opened her Christmas Shoebox she squealed -- the box contained a pair of shoes (and her exact size). She was now able to attend school. WOW!
COVID put a stop to our yearly trip but that didn't stop our school from filling shoeboxes. Our students, staff and community put together 42 boxes (plus many more were filled online). They were dropped off today. This is contributing global citizenship active in our students. Way to go Lomond Community School!
