Introduction

Our division-wide mission is to engage and empower all learners.  We are actively pursuing this mission in many ways but here are some of the highlights:

Inclusive Learning that respects diversity -- We are a multi-cultural community that embraces all people. Half of our students come from Low German Mennonite homes.  Our staff are passionate about integration and differentiation within all classes.

Engaging and Empowering Learners -- We work hard to ensure our students are engaged.  This means hands-on learning, project-based learning and lots of focused exploration, creation and presentation. Students are empowered as they make learning their own.  Although we are small, we are constantly offering choice in learning.  Our enhanced music program, woodworking, art, sewing, nutrition class, CTS and option blocks, distance learning, and second language classes all provide variety in programming.

Lomond Community School has aligned itself with our division-wide vision statement.  We seek daily to passionately engage learners in hopes that they will gain the knowledge and skills to be contributing citizens and desire to develop as life-long learners.  In line with this we have started the following initiatives:

Project Citizenship -- This is our school-wide citizenship focus.  Students serve throughout the community and through different projects.  We spend time cleaning up the town, learning from our seniors, sorting Christmas shoeboxes, raising money for both local and international charities.

Technology -- Our school is one-on-one using ipads and chromebooks.  We work hard to integrate technology throughout every day. Our students use them mostly for project-based learning and presentation.

Our school operates on a 4-day school week, generally Monday to Thursday.  We also operate a private preschool and kindergarten. Students of all ages have tremendous pride in our school.  Both staff and students are committed to providing an emotionally and physically safe, caring, accepting, and supportive environment with high expectations and positive relationships.  We are committed to continual improvement.
