Policies and General Information
School Fees
School Fees are due October 31st of every year. The fees are as
follows:
Elementary - $40.00
Junior High - $55.00
Senior High - $70.00
Calculator Rent for Senior High Students - $15.00
Cheques should be made payable to Lomond Community School.
Absenteeism
The school requests that if your child is
not going to be attending school, you contact the school each and every
time they will be absent. We would also request that if your
child is going to be late or will be leaving school early you contact
the school with this information. All students should obtain a
late slip from the office prior to going to class. Also if they
are leaving the school early they must check out at the office prior to
leaving the school grounds.
Phone Calls
If at all possible we would request that you tell your child(ren) what
the plans for the day are at home. However, we understand that
sometimes your plans may change and you need to inform your child of
these plans. We would request that you call at the break times
listed below. We will call students out of class for emergencies
however we do not like to do it on a regualr basis as it disrupts the
whole class. We WILL NOT call students out of class to talk to
another student. Therefore if your child calls the school
to talk to another student those calls will not be forwarded, so please
make sure you as a parent are calling for your children. Only
phone calls from parents will be forwarded onto students.
Break times for elementary - 10:07-10:17, 11:44-12:17, 2:08-2:22
Break time for Jr. & Sr. High - 11:44-12:17
School Hours
The school office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Busses arrive
at the school at approximately 8:25 a.m. with classes running from 8:35
a.m. to 3:48 p.m. Busses are usually gone from the school by 3:55
p.m. All town students should not be arriving at the school prior
to 8:25 a.m. and should be gone from the school no later than 4 p.m.,
unless otherwise arranged with a teacher.
Extra Clothing
We recommend that all elementary students bring an extra set of
clothing to keep in their locker incase they need to change. In
some cases when it is wet outside children will come in with wet pants,
socks, etc. It is much easier to have the child change rather
than make them sit in wet clothes all day long. The older
students usually have gym strip that they can change into.
Be Prepared For The Weather
This is Alberta and the weather can change
several times a day. Please make sure that your child is dressed
appropriately for the time of year not necessarily for the forecasted
weather of the day. ALL students should be dressed for winter
weather or at least have the proper clothing with them. It is
always easier to take your heavy winter jacket off than it is to try
and stay warm with a summer jacket. Hats, mitts/gloves, scarves,
snow pants, boots are always a good idea in the winter months,
especially for bus students.
Report Cards
There are 3 reporting periods for the elementary students and 4
reporting periods for junior and senior high students. However
there is only one formal parent-teacher interview day held the school
and that is in November. Any other interviews can be scheduled
with individual teachers are required. Report Cards are handed
out in the following months:
Report 1 - November (all grades)
Report 2 - January (Jr./Sr. High only)
Report 3 - April (all grades)
Report 4 - June (all grades)
School
News
There is a monthly calendar that goes home the last day of the month
with the youngest student in the family. Weekly we have a
newsletter that goes home every Thursday again with the youngest
studnet in the family. Most mail will go home with your youngest
student in the school. If you want this changed and school mail
to go home with another student please make sure that you contact the
secretary in the office with this request. The newsletter and
calendar will also be posted on our web page.
New Contact Information
Every September we send home a registration
form with your child(ren). It is very important that you check
this form over carefully and make the necessary corrections. Due
to the fact that this is only sent out at the beginning of every year
please contact the school if you make any changes to your location or
contact information as soon as it is made. This will help us in
contacting parents in regards to emergencies, concerns or bussing
concerns.
Billets Are Important
When conditions make it necessary for bus
students to stay in town they will be billeted out to a family in
town. Each parent must arrange for your child's billet.
Please contact someone in town and make these arragements. Once
you have done this make sure you contact the school and advise them of
your child's billet information. It is a good idea to check every
year with your billet as they may forget and say yes to more people and
find themselves in a bind.
Fire Drills/Lock Down Procedures
Both Fire Drills and Loc Down practices are
held periodically throughout the year. We are required to advise
parents when a lock down practice is going to be held. We advise
parents through the school newsletter the week prior to the lown down
practice. It is very important that all children wear shoes in
school. If your child is wearing boots (winter or rubber) to
school please make sure that they have indoor shoes to wear during
class time. Students do not have time to stop and put shoes on
during a fire drill.
Lost &
Found & Labelling Your Property
Lost and Found items can be found on the boot rack
upstairs and in the box in the back entry way downstairs. All
jewerly is handed into the secretary and kept at the office. We
would recommend any parents that come into the school to take a look at
these items to see if anything belongs to your child.
Periodically clothing and school supplies are displayed in the lobby
downstairs for students and parents to look at them. All jewerly
and valuables are available for viewing every day at the office.
If you label your items (if possible) it is easier to return items to
the owners. On the last day of school all lost and found items
are displayed and anything not collected is sent to the Salvation Army
during the summer.
Illness & Accidents
If your child becomes ill or is in an accident at the school parents
are called and advised to come pick up their child at the school.
If you are not able to come to the school immediately to collect your
child they will be put in the sick room until you can come to the
school or home time. I cases of an emergency, the child will be
taken to the Vulcan Clinic or hospital. We are not allowed to
administer aspirin, tylenol or other medication to your child.
